Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin has made a statement: “let there be no doubt, the DMK will return to power in Tamil Nadu with only Kalignar as the chief minister.”

Stalin, soon, was again interrupted by the slogan-shouting crowd when he was extolling the one-rupee rice scheme. This time, by a question: “Will you give us rice for 50 paise a kilo?” His reply: “You have seen Kalaignar’s actions and promises come real...and we (DMK) say with arrogance that you will see him (Karunanidhi) again.”

Stalin was speaking at a party rally on Tuesday night, when exuberant cadre started hailing him as “adutha muthalvar” (next CM). At this, he gave a pause to his tirade against AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, and said the next government would again be headed by his father, Karunanidhi.

The assertion comes in the wake of Karunanidhi’s statement at a wedding on Tuesday that he would soon only be DMK president.

He even hinted that people who formed parties just before polls generally ended up as ‘agathis’ ([political] refugees). In a concluding reposte, the Deputy Chief Minister quipped: “I do not consider worthy answering questions from a person who can’t make a political speech for at least an hour.”
