Eight persons including six women were killed and four others sustained serious injuries when a Tata Sumo carrying them collided head on with a speeding tanker near Nirankari Bhawan under Mauaima police station on Thursday evening.
Station officer Mauaima PR Tripathi said six deceased were natives of Vellore district in Tamil Nadu. He added that police recovered a mobile set and diary and were trying to ascertain the identity of other deceased.
Tripathi said five persons died on the spot while three succumbed to their injuries on way to the hospital. Four injured persons were admitted at SRN hospital where the condition of two of them was stated to be critical. The incident, according to police, took place when the Tata Sumo coming from Pratapgarh collided with an oil tanker. Villagers rushed to the spot to rescue the injured.
